Drilling operations at well No.312 Galkynysh, the world's largest onshore gas field, have resulted in a commercial inflow of natural gas, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports.
"Its daily output is 1.7mn cubic metres. A significant increase in this figure is expected." In September 2023, it was reported that the debit of the 4,557 metre deep production well No. 238 was 2.2mn cubic metres of gas per day.
The total reserves of this gas source with nearby fields, where the first stage of commercial development has been implemented, are estimated at 27.4tn cubic metres. The forecast was made with the participation of the British GaffneyCline.
Experts told Daryo that Turkmenistan is now actively negotiating with international investors on the second and third phases of Galkynysh development. A "breakthrough" in this direction is expected in 2024.
In the long term, after six stages of industrial development, the supergiant can produce up to 200bn cubic metres of gas a year.
Galkynysh is one of the main sources of gas supplies to China and a potential feedstock base for the pipeline under construction to South Asia and the project under discussion to link up with Europe via the Caspian Sea.
