A meeting between Jamshid Abdusalamov, the head of the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan, and Abylkasym Sherniyazov, President of the Tourism Development Fund of Kyrgyzstan, laid the groundwork for potential collaborations, with a particular focus on transportation.
Key among the discussed initiatives is the potential launch of joint flights connecting Tokyo, Tashkent, and Bishkek. While specific details are not provided, the proposal indicates a step toward strengthening air connectivity between the two nations.
Another area of discussion involves the introduction of additional bus routes from Osh to the border shared by the two countries. Uzbekistan has expressed its willingness to lease buses to Kyrgyzstan, signaling bilateral cooperation in the realm of ground transportation.
Addressing border infrastructure, the parties explored opportunities to enhance the Madaniyat border crossing in the Nooken district of Kyrgyzstan's Jalal-Abad region. Discussions also encompassed the possibility of extending tourist registrations on a reciprocal basis.
Earlier, a Kyrgyz delegation from the tourism industry had visited the Fergana Valley regions. During the visit, a memorandum was signed between Fergana and Osh regions, outlining plans for mutual collaboration in attracting tourists and sharing expertise in service provision.
Additional agreements were inked with companies in the Namangan region, with expectations to draw an additional 200 thousand Kyrgyz tourists in 2024.
