The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) took place in Ashgabat.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the document provides for the development of regional programmes to attract climate technologies to Turkmenistan and the region.
The memorandum was signed by Minister Charygeldy Babanyyazov and Sheila Aggarwal-Khan, Director of UNEP's Industry and Economy Division.
Experts told Daryo that Turkmenistan representatives had previously floated the idea of opening a Regional Climate Technology Centre for Central Asia in Ashgabat under UN auspices.
"This could be one of the platforms to attract funding for the rational use of transboundary water resources."
