President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received newly-appointed Japanese Ambassador Hiroshi Sasaki, who presented his credentials, local television channel Altyn Asyr reports.
The diplomat conveyed on behalf of the Emperor of Japan his gratitude to Berdimuhamedov for his contribution to the progressive expansion of Turkmen-Japanese relations. Sasaki also noted his country's deep interest in further progressive development of fruitful relations.
"For Turkmenistan, Japan is an important partner country, bilateral relations with which are of a long-term, strategic nature," the head of state said.
Experts told Daryo that Japanese companies have implemented large-scale projects in Turkmenistan in the gas chemical industry and power industry, as well as supplied special equipment for projects in the fuel and energy complex, transport and water management.
The impetus for business cooperation between the two countries was given by former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's official visit to Ashgabat in October 2015, which resulted in the signing of investment agreements worth $18bn.
