Documentary filmmakers of the Oguz-Khan Turkmenfilm studio are preparing for a business trip to Bukhara (Uzbekistan) to shoot a cinema about classical poet Makhtumkuli Fraghi, the Turkmenistan: Altyn Asyr online edition reports.
The creative team is led by director Annadurdy Tashliev. His colleagues are also shooting films in Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran and Turkey to mark the 300th anniversary of the famous 18th century classic, which will be celebrated in 2024.
Uzbekistan honours Makhtumkuli's legacy. One of Tashkent's central streets is named in his honour, and a bas-relief of him was installed there in 2017. There is documentary evidence that the poet studied in Khiva and Bukhara and considered Alisher Navoi his mentor.
One of the first editions of his poems was published in Uzbekistan under the title "Divan khezreti Makhtumkuli".
A rare copy was found in the Turkmen village of Ak-Yayla. Academician Murad Karryev recalled that "its inhabitant Ilyas-aga (Gochberdiev) opened a chest and took out a book carefully wrapped in red cloth. It was a collection of poems by Makhtumkuli, published in Bukhara in 1910".
