Currently, only Russians and EAEU nationals may apply for a favorable tax scheme. They propose in Russia to expand the special tax regime for self-employed people to Uzbek citizens. The TASS news agency reported this, citing Alexander Kalinin, the director of "Russian Support."
On the margins of the Russian Economic Forum on November 10, Kalinin advocated expanding the self-employment regime to people of CIS member nations.
"In our country, citizens of the EAEU can register as self-employed, but citizens of the CIS cannot do this - this is also a question that is worth discussing: why a citizen of Kyrgyzstan, working in Russia, can be self-employed, but a citizen of Uzbekistan cannot," he went on to say.
Leonid Kalashnikov, the chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration, and Relations with Compatriots, endorsed the idea to extend the self-employment regime to CIS people working in Russia.
On January 1, 2019, the Russian government implemented a self-employment tax policy. It assumes lower income tax rates: 4% on individual income and 6% on revenue from individual entrepreneurs and legal organizations.
The unique regime will be in effect until December 31, 2028. Citizens of Russia and the EAEU states of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan can now utilize it.
