On October 27, in Riga, Latvia, a momentous occasion unfolded—the grand inauguration of Uzbekistan's honorary consulate, Dunyo reports.
The ceremony brought together various dignitaries, including Kadamboy Sultanov, the Uzbekistan Ambassador to Latvia, Andzejs Vilumsons, the Deputy Secretary of State from the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and representatives from government, business, and the general public.
The role of honorary consul was bestowed upon Vladimir Galperin, the leader of the Uzbekistan Trade House in Riga and the founder of Outdoor Media. During this special event, he was officially granted a consular patent.
This marks an important milestone as the first honorary consulate of Uzbekistan in the Baltic region, a fact highlighted by the agency.
The honorary consul's responsibilities are extensive, including protecting the rights and interests of Uzbek citizens in Latvia, promoting economic cooperation, attracting Latvian investments and tourists to Uzbekistan, expanding the export of Uzbek products to Latvia and other Baltic countries, facilitating organized labor migration, and nurturing cultural, humanitarian, and other connections.
The ceremony also emphasized that the establishment of the Uzbekistan honorary consulate in Riga, coupled with the initiation of the Latvian Investment and Development Agency's representation in Tashkent, will significantly bolster the institutional framework for trade, investment, and cultural collaboration between Uzbekistan and Latvia.
