Ambassador of Uzbekistan Kadambai Sultanov met with the newly appointed Latvia’s Minister for Culture, Nauris Puntulis, to discuss prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation in art, library and museum affairs, and cinematography, Dunyo reports.
Minister of Culture Nauris Puntulis emphasized the historical ties of cultural cooperation between Latvia and Uzbekistan and the significant contribution of the outstanding Latvian composer, folklorist, and music teacher Emilis Melngailis who lived and worked in Uzbekistan at the beginning of the twentieth century.
The Minister noted the importance of the speedy completion of the coordination procedures for signing a two-year cultural cooperation program between Uzbekistan and Latvia in areas of the study and preservation of cultural heritage, including folklore, the exchange of experience in the development of musical and song art, holding joint concerts with the participation of creative teams. Furthermore, the two sides confirmed their readiness to contribute to strengthening ties and partnerships between the filmmakers of the two countries.
The two sides expressed their conviction that the development of cultural ties will contribute to deepening mutual understanding and further strengthening the ties of friendship between the peoples of Uzbekistan and Latvia.
