Iran has proposed to Uzbekistan the signing of an agreement to abolish the visa regime, aiming to facilitate tourism and bilateral cooperation. The suggestion was made by Iran's Minister of Tourism, Izzatulla Zargami, during a meeting with Uzbekistan's Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, Aziz Abdhakimov, at the International Tourism Forum in Samarkand.
Zargami expressed the close ties between the two nations, especially after his visit to Bukhara. He emphasized the importance of supporting Uzbek tourists visiting Iran and granting Uzbekistan priority for Iranian tourists traveling abroad. To enhance tourism between the countries, both sides are considering the development of overland travel, with potential cooperation with Turkmenistan.
In a broader context, Iran is exploring simplifying visa regulations for citizens of 60 countries, including the possibility of unilaterally removing the visa requirement. Since October 2022, Uzbekistan and Iran have already implemented a simplified visa regime for business and scientific delegations, as well as tourist groups.
