The White House has asked Congress for almost $106bn in funding for various purposes, including Ukraine, Israel, and border security. President Biden seeks a comprehensive national security spending bill that combines these priorities. However, Congress faces challenges, with Republican lawmakers questioning the need for Ukraine's funding amid concerns about budget deficits.
The House of Representatives, currently without a leader, is striving to resolve the Speaker issue, which could affect funding efforts. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer intends to act quickly on Biden's request.
The proposed funding includes support for Israel and Gaza's humanitarian relief, addressing immigration concerns, countering China's regional efforts, and funding the Pacific "AUKUS" security partnership. Most of the funds, around $61.4bn, are allocated to Ukraine, covering military equipment, security assistance, and economic and refugee support.
Ukrainian President Zelenskiy has praised the bipartisan support, emphasizing America's investment in Ukraine's defense for long-term security. Recent polls show public support for assisting Israel and providing weapons to Ukraine.

If we put that at risk and walk away from Ukrainians or turn our back on Israeli and Palestinian civilians, it's just not worth it.
That's why I've sent an urgent budget request to Congress to fund America's national security needs. https://t.co/VkbQ5cf0LL
