    Uzbekistan's foreign trade is experiencing a remarkable surge, with turnover reaching an impressive $44.8 bn from January to September 2023. This represents a staggering 22.1% increase, equivalent to a growth of $8.1 bn compared to the previous year. These impressive figures reflect Uzbekistan's commitment to economic reforms and growing global trade competitiveness.

    Balancing exports and imports: expanding opportunities

    Uzbekistan's export sector demonstrated significant strength, with exports amounting to $17,739.4 mn, reflecting a notable % growth rate of 22.1%. Simultaneously, imports stood at $27,014.8 mn, showcasing a growth rate of 21.2%. While a negative foreign trade balance of -$9,275.4 mn was recorded, Uzbekistan's focus on expanding its export potential indicates a positive trajectory for future trade endeavours.

    Key trading partners: driving economic cooperation

    Uzbekistan's commitment to global economic integration is evident through its trade relations with 193 countries worldwide. Several nations emerged as prominent trading partners from January to September 2023. The leading countries contributing to Uzbekistan's foreign trade include:

    • China (21.1%): As the largest trading partner, China is pivotal in Uzbekistan's export and import activities.
    • Russia (15.7%): With a longstanding relationship, trade ties with Russia remain strong, fostering mutual economic growth.
    • Kazakhstan (7.2%): Uzbekistan's geographical proximity to Kazakhstan facilitates substantial trade volumes, strengthening economic cooperation.
    • Turkey (5.3%): The bilateral trade between Uzbekistan and Turkey has witnessed steady growth, driven by shared economic interests.
    • Republic of Korea (3.8%): Uzbekistan's trade relations with South Korea have flourished, reflecting the diversification of its international trade portfolio.
