The Affiliate Members of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) convened to strengthen collaboration between public and private sectors for mutual tourism objectives during the 44th Affiliate Members Plenary Session.
This session took place within the 25th UNWTO General Assembly in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, focusing on the theme, "Enhancing tourism through public-private cooperation."
Approximately 150 participants, representing around 70 Affiliate Members, gathered to discuss Affiliate Membership's current status, accomplishments since the previous Plenary Session, the ongoing expansion strategy for a quality-oriented and geographically balanced membership, and proposals for future projects.
The UNWTO Programme of Work for 2024-2025 was presented during the session, featuring over 50 contributions from Affiliate Members who had the opportunity to elaborate on forthcoming projects.
A special Award Ceremony acknowledged long-standing Affiliate Members for their contributions. Awards were given in bronze, silver, and gold categories based on the duration of Affiliate Membership.
The Affiliate Members Department introduced a modernized platform set to launch shortly, aiming to improve network management and collaboration among Affiliate Members.
The Plenary Session highlighted opportunities for Affiliate Members to engage with UNWTO in priority areas, such as education and tourist protection, further integrating Affiliate Membership into the UNWTO agenda.
