Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, the Minister of Water Management and Irrigation of Kazakhstan, recently visited the Kyzylorda region, which holds 45% of the country's water supply systems, according to a statement from the ministry's press service. During his visit, he inspected vital components of the local water infrastructure.
Nurzhigitov familiarized himself with ongoing efforts to address water shortages in the region and engaged in discussions with staff and specialists at the facility.
"Drinking water is being misused, which may lead to a shortage in the near future. As the head of state has stated several times, Kazakhstan may become one of the countries in dire need of water by 2050. In order to avoid this, it is important to use the available resources very wisely, to conduct active educational work among the population," concluded the minister.
Furthermore, Nurzhigitov expressed his readiness to address the issue of increasing the salaries of water management personnel. It's worth noting that "Kazvodkhoz" previously announced the potential doubling of irrigation water prices in Kazakhstan. Renowned Nobel laureate and sustainability expert Rae Kwon Chung suggested implementing a "Green Tariff" in Kazakhstan as a measure to mitigate water shortages.
