During the recent Kyrgyz-Kazakh Business Council meeting, Yerbol Sarypbekov, an advisor at the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Kyrgyzstan, announced that Kazakhstan will supply Kyrgyzstan with 1.5bn kilowatts of electricity for the upcoming heating season.
Reportedly, this decision was made during a trilateral meeting between the authorities of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan in Astana on August 25.
Kazakhstan will trade electricity to Kyrgyzstan for water conservation in the Kirov, Orto-Tokoy, and Toktogul reservoirs as part of the agreement.
Yerbol Sarypbekov highlighted that the electricity will be utilized for storing additional water in the reservoirs.
He further stated that Kazakhstan has committed to supplying Kyrgyzstan with electricity between September and April, with a total volume of 1.5bn kilowatts, a significant increase from last year's 500mn kilowatts.
