Egypt is waiting for a response from both Israeli and Palestinian sides regarding an initiative for a prisoner exchange and a temporary ceasefire, as reported by Sky News Arabia. The proposal includes implementing a "temporary ceasefire until the exchange is completed."
Earlier, the Egyptian news portal Sada El Balad had reported that the Palestinian movement Hamas intends to exchange some hostages captured during the operation on Israeli territory for Palestinian women held in Israeli prisons.
According to Ahmed Fahmi, the official spokesperson for the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Egypt has been actively engaging with all parties from the beginning of the conflict.
"Egypt has been in direct contact with both the Israeli and Palestinian sides, as well as regional and international actors since Saturday, at the level of the president, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and interested parties," emphasized Fahmi.
Notably, Musa Abu Marzuk, a senior Hamas representative, announced the capture of over 100 new hostages, including not only civilians but also Israeli military personnel, some of whom are senior officers. Ziyad al-Nakhalah, the Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad, also claimed the capture of more than 30 Israelis during the operation near the Gaza Strip.
He stated that among the detainees are Israeli soldiers and Jewish settlers. Al-Nakhalah emphasized that the captives would not return to their country "until Palestinian prisoners" held in Israeli prisons are released.
