On October 4, the IV International Transport-Logistics Business Forum, "NEW SILK WAY," has commenced in Astana, Kazakhstan, serving as a platform for experts and participants to delve into the integration and cooperation of transport systems, the development of the middle corridor, and the application of new technologies and innovations in multimodal transport to enhance cargo efficiency and delivery.
The forum is a part of Transport Week, where stakeholders from various nations converge to address pressing transportation-related issues. A delegation led by Ilkhom Makhkamov, the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan, is actively participating in the event. In his address at the forum, Minister Makhkamov emphasized the growing importance of intermodal and multimodal transportation, particularly in light of evolving geopolitical dynamics worldwide.
Recognizing the significance of this aspect, Uzbekistan has been taking practical steps to create promising multimodal transport corridors in the region and enhance existing ones. Among the key initiatives is the promotion of a new regional corridor that would provide access to the Indian Ocean ports for CIS countries through Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
This initiative holds great promise for enhancing trade and connectivity in the region. Analysis suggests that in 2022, the volume of transit cargo passing through Afghanistan to Pakistan is set to double, reaching approximately 670,000 tons. By the end of 2023, it is anticipated that the volume of cargo transportation will exceed a remarkable 1 million tons.
These developments underscore the growing recognition of the importance of multimodal transport corridors in facilitating international trade, fostering regional connectivity, and addressing the evolving needs of the global logistics landscape. As nations increasingly look to enhance their transport infrastructure and connectivity, forums like "NEW SILK WAY" play a pivotal role in promoting collaboration and innovation in the field of transportation and logistics.
