Aibek Smadiyarov, the official spokesperson for Kazakhstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has disclosed that the government maintains a confidential registry of foreign individuals who express unfavorable views about the country.
According to Smadiyarov, those included in this list will find their entry into Kazakhstan restricted, as the border is effectively "closed" to them, Tengri News has reported.
"We do, in fact, maintain this list, but it is an internal working document. We have no intention of making it public. Negative remarks do not go unnoticed," explained Aibek Smadiyarov. When questioned about whether the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kazakhstan keeps track of citizens who voice critical opinions about the nation, Smadiyarov referred to a specific incident involving an individual who drew "comparisons between Kazakhstan and Ukraine."
Tengri News provided context for this inquiry, mentioning it arose "in light of the contentious remarks made by Russian endocrinologist Ilya Mageri concerning Kazakhstan." On social media, Mageri engaged in a heated exchange with a reader who argued that he "is not a benefit to Kazakhstan" and labeled him as an imperialist. In response, the doctor pointed out that the Kazakh Academy of Sciences "was established by this empire," which also educated the country's scientists and artists. He cautioned that due to those who continually provoke unrest, the region might become embroiled in conflict.
Smadiyarov's statement, as reported by the publication, concluded, "Greetings to the endocrinologist with a million-strong audience from me. It would be more productive for him to focus on healing patients and practicing his profession rather than expressing personal opinions. We maintain friendly and strategic relations with Russia, and we operate as neighboring states with amicable ties."
