Uzbekistan has recently made a remarkable purchase of wheat from Kazakhstan, setting a new record for the quantity acquired. During the grain season spanning from September 2022 to August 2023, Uzbekistan maintained its position as the primary importer of Kazakh wheat.
Citing official statistics from APK-Inform, it was revealed that Kazakhstan exported an impressive 3.9 mn tons of wheat to Uzbekistan during this period. This figure represents a substantial increase compared to the previous season's export volume of 2.6 mn tons. Notably, Uzbekistan accounted for nearly 50% of all Kazakh wheat exports, surpassing its share of 45% in the 2021/22 marketing year. This achievement marks the highest recorded amount of wheat purchased by Uzbekistan in the past five seasons.
In August of this year, Kazakhstan further solidified its position as a key supplier by delivering 277,015 tons of wheat to Uzbekistan. This notable quantity represents a significant increase compared to the 117,044 tons supplied during the same period the previous year.
