The World Boxing Federation (WBC) is set to make history by hosting its annual convention in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, marking the first time this prestigious event will take place in Central Asia. Scheduled for November 12-17, 2023, the convention is expected to draw some of the biggest names in the world of boxing.
Eldormurod Sabirov, the head of the department of organization and control of public events in professional boxing, shared this exciting news. The upcoming 61st WBC convention promises to be a star-studded affair, with iconic figures from the boxing world, such as Kostya Szew, Evander Holyfield, Amir Khan, and even popular social media influencer and blogger Abduroziq, confirming their participation. Furthermore, negotiations are currently underway to secure the presence of legendary boxer Mike Tyson and other esteemed boxing personalities.
The convention will culminate in a thrilling boxing night on November 17 at the "Humo Arena." This event will feature the participation of Uzbekistan's talented boxers, including Mujibillo Tursunov and Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov. Adding to the excitement, Anvar Turopov and Suhrob Kayumov are slated to compete for the Central Asian WBC belt.
The decision to host the WBC convention in Tashkent underscores the growing prominence of Uzbekistan in the world of professional boxing. It promises to be a remarkable gathering, showcasing the sport's rich history and its brightest stars, while also providing a platform for Central Asian talent to shine.
