The son of Armenia's former president, Levon Kocharyan, has been arrested and is currently hospitalized due to alleged mistreatment during his apprehension. He has been placed under one-month detention by a court in Yerevan, facing criminal charges for allegedly assaulting four police officers during a protest on September 22, as reported by his lawyer, Alexander Kochubaev.
Video footage of Levon Kocharyan's arrest has emerged, and his lawyer claims that he was subjected to violence during the arrest. Presently, Kocharyan is in moderate condition with a diagnosis of a closed head injury and concussion, according to Interfax.
These events occurred in the backdrop of ongoing military conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh involving Azerbaijan, leading to protests in Armenia. The demonstrators were demanding protection for Armenian residents in Karabakh and calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's government. On September 22, in addition to Levon Kocharyan, more than 90 protesters were detained.
