Samarkand's authorities are making efforts to enhance their tourism services to accommodate the growing number of visitors, especially those from Russia. The spokesman responsible for tourism and cultural heritage told the media that the region was pleasantly surprised by the arrival of 100,000 Russian tourists in 2022, and this year's first eight months have already matched that number.
To cater to tourists, the city is constructing 38 swimming pools in existing hotels, and new hotels are required to have one. These pools will have designated areas for children and adults and will be located in the rowing canal and two reservoirs, providing ample opportunities for water recreation.
Besides, Samarkand plans to expand its nightlife by transforming a street in the city into a 24-hour entertainment hub, with plans to open a bar street by the end of September. The city administration is closely collaborating with internal affairs agencies to ensure the safety and security of tourists.
Currently, tourists can choose from 161 hotels and over 300 guest houses, with an average occupancy rate of 75-80%. With these new developments, Samarkand hopes to continue attracting more visitors and providing them with an exceptional experience.
Samarkand has a rich cultural heritage that spans many centuries. It has been a vital center of the Great Silk Road, serving as a key crossroads for trade and cultural exchange. Recognizing its historical significance, the city was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in the 21st century under the name "Samarkand - Crossroads of Cultures."
