The Jizzakh Regional PGO Department recently carried out an operation that led to the arrest of an individual who tried to buy an iPhone using counterfeit money.
Citizen Zh. A., had advertised an iPhone 13 Pro for sale. Citizen U.J. responded to the ad and agreed to purchase the phone for $1,000.
However, during the transaction, the suspect paid with 10 fake $100 bills.
Because of this incident, an investigation has been launched under Article 176 of the Criminal Code, which deals with the manufacturing and selling of counterfeit currency, excise stamps, or securities. The investigation is still ongoing.
Earlier, Daryo reported that a buyer in Yangihayot district of Tashkent used counterfeit money to purchase an iPhone 12 Pro from N.Sh., a 26-year-old who had listed it for UZS 5.9mn on March 27. After showing interest, the stranger met N.Sh. at the bus stop in front of the 3rd subway station in the district and quickly paid the agreed amount without much bargaining. However, N.Sh. suspected that some of the money was counterfeit while counting it. Consequently, N.Sh. reported the issue to the Main Department of Internal Affairs of Tashkent City for further investigation.
