During the initial seven months of 2023, Uzbekistan granted 21,871 protective orders to women who had experienced domestic abuse and violence, according to the Committee on Family and Women's Affairs.
Among the registered incidents of women facing pressure and violence, a staggering 18,526 cases (84.7%) transpired within familial settings. While there has been a reduction compared to the same timeframe in the previous year, the recent occurrences of domestic violence underscore the need for heightened efforts. The Committee emphasizes the necessity for collaborative action involving pertinent governmental bodies and civil society organizations to tackle this issue effectively.
Within the 9,362 cases where protective orders were issued, families reconciled their differences, while in 11,350 instances, conflicts were successfully resolved. Furthermore, administrative or criminal accountability was established in response to 5,495 issued orders, leading to the restoration of women's violated rights.
Earlier, Daryo reported that in the Fergana region of Uzbekistan, a tragic incident unfolded as a woman took her own life by hanging, a distressing account brought to light by the anti-domestic violence initiative Nemolchi.uz.
