Deputy Adakhan Madumarov has been detained in Kyrgyzstan on charges of treason, 24.kg reports.
The allegations stem from a protocol signed in Khojand in 2009. At that time, Adakhon Madumarov held the position of Secretary of the Security Council and was responsible for signing the minutes of a working meeting involving heads of state bodies from both Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, led by the respective Secretaries of the Security Councils.
The document in question pertains to the lease of a 5-hectare plot of land from Tajikistan to Kyrgyzstan, extending 275m, for a period of 49 years. This protocol was the result of negotiations held in Khojand.
Currently, the suspect is being held in a pre-trial detention center, and investigations into the matter are underway. Further details regarding the case have not been disclosed.
It's worth noting that in June, the Kyrgyz parliament granted permission to prosecute Madumarov following a request from the Prosecutor General's Office. In a separate incident in February, Adakhan Madumarov expressed praise for the President of Uzbekistan while critiquing the actions of Sadyr Japarov, Kyrgyzstan's President. He specifically remarked that Japarov tended to sign mostly non-legally binding memoranda during his official visits.
