The construction of three small hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) along the Chon-Jargylchak river has officially commenced in the Jeti-Oguz district of Kyrgyzstan's Issyk-Kul region, according to an announcement from the Green Energy Fund under the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan, 24.kg reported. The foundation-laying ceremony was attended by Emilbek Orozbaev, the Director of the Fund.
These three HPPs, namely Chon Jargylchak and Kichi Jargylchak HPPs, each with a capacity of six megawatts, and Ak Terek HPP with a capacity of four megawatts, are expected to bolster Kyrgyzstan's renewable energy infrastructure. The projects have garnered support from various partners and investors, including 40 Capital Trust LLC, DATT Energy LLC, and INTEK LLC.
Construction work on these HPPs is slated to commence later this year, with an anticipated operational launch in 2025. A noteworthy aspect of these projects is the active involvement of local residents in both the construction and subsequent operation of the HPPs.
Emilbek Orozbaev, Director of the Green Energy Fund, underscored the government's prioritization of renewable energy projects. In an effort to expedite these initiatives, the Fund has established a "single window" service that will streamline processes related to permit acquisition and land allocation for renewable energy facilities.
Earlier Daryo reported that Kyrgyzstan is set to build a hydroelectric power plant (HPP) in Mailuu-Suu at a cost exceeding $35 mn. The HPP project intends to achieve a combined capacity of 26 megawatts, with an anticipated annual electricity output averaging 108 mn kilowatt-hours from this small hydroelectric facility.
