"Torrential rain, gusty winds, and a serious human hazard greeted Florida's shores on Wednesday morning with the arrival of the storm named 'Idalia.'
According to Euronews, despite its reclassification from a powerful Category 4 hurricane to a less potent Category 1, evacuation measures were enforced in 23 regions.
Wind speeds reaching 205 km/h were recorded around Keaton Beach.
Governor Ron DeSantis urged residents to avoid unnecessary risks and to remain indoors during the storm's peak. He emphasized, 'If your surroundings seem calm, you might be in the cyclone's center, known as the 'eye of the storm.' Weather conditions are expected to change rapidly, so whether at home or elsewhere, seek shelter. This is a very potent storm and its danger should not be underestimated.'
The highway patrol confirmed that two people had died in accidents caused by adverse weather conditions.
PowerOutage.us reported that over 260,000 Florida residents are currently without electricity.
The National Hurricane Center's assessment indicates that 'Idalia' is gradually weakening as it moves deeper into the state and toward neighboring Georgia and South Carolina."
