In the night of August 30, Russian forces launched rockets and kamikaze drones at Kyiv, Meduza reported.
"It was a nighttime aerial attack. Kyiv has not experienced such a powerful assault since spring. The enemy conducted a massive combined attack using drones and rockets," stated Sergei Popko, the head of Kyiv City Military Administration (KCMA).
Initially, drones attacked the city from different directions, followed by rocket strikes on Kyiv's airbase, Popko wrote in a telegram. KCMA managed to down up to 20 rockets and drones using air defense forces and resources, according to Popko.
Due to rocket debris falling in the Shevchenkivskyi district, two security guards of a company were killed, and three others were injured, two of whom were hospitalized, Popko reported.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko also confirmed two deaths from the shelling and two hospitalized individuals. Klitschko added that debris from rockets caused a fire in a building in the Darnytskyi district, specifically at the "Auchan" hypermarket, which was swiftly extinguished.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) reported that several residential houses were damaged in the Kyiv region due to rocket strikes, resulting in some fires that were promptly contained.
Later, Chief Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Valeriy Zaluzhnyy declared that all 28 cruise missiles launched against Ukrainian territory on the night of August 30 were successfully intercepted, along with 15 out of 16 attack drones.
