The preliminary figures reflect an exponential increase in electric car imports over the past year, with China emerging as the primary source of these eco-friendly vehicles.
Electric car import trends
Uzbekistan's import of electric cars has experienced a staggering growth trajectory, capturing the attention of industry observers. In the span of January to July 2023, the nation imported an impressive total of 7,391 electric cars, collectively valued at $217.1 mn. This pronounced increase in import volume translates to a remarkable surge of 6,084 units, marking an almost six-fold rise when compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.
China has emerged as the dominant player in Uzbekistan's electric car import landscape. The country's commitment to electric mobility, coupled with its robust manufacturing capabilities, has positioned it as the prime supplier of electric cars to Uzbekistan. Notably, a substantial 6,898 electric cars were imported from China within the span of seven months, firmly establishing its dominance in the market.
Key importing countries
While China holds the lion's share of electric car imports, several other nations also contribute to Uzbekistan's growing fleet of eco-friendly vehicles. The import breakdown for the first seven months of 2023 is as follows:
- Hong Kong: 376 electric cars
- Germany: 64 electric cars
- Korea: 18 electric cars
- UAE: 16 electric cars
- USA: 11 electric cars
