The Prosecutor General's Office of Uzbekistan has spearheaded a comprehensive effort to combat the illegal use of electricity and optimize energy resource management. This drive has yielded substantial results, resulting in a noteworthy reduction in receivables, legal actions against offenders, and significant recoveries of damages, General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan reported.
Detecting damage and ensuring rational energy use
The diligent efforts of the Prosecutor General's Office were directed towards addressing the misuse of electricity. Over $5.5 mn worth of damage was detected in a total of 1,341 cases associated with the illegal utilization of electricity. To address this concern and promote responsible energy consumption, the office established consistent control mechanisms.
Achieving substantial reduction in receivables
Collaborative efforts between the prosecutor's office, governmental authorities, and other relevant bodies have led to the substantial reduction of electricity receivables. By the end of the reporting period, a remarkable reduction of over $17 mn in receivables was achieved compared to the beginning of the year.
To ensure accountability and uphold legal standards, the Prosecutor General's Office initiated a range of legal actions against offenders. A total of 1,232 administrative cases and 39 criminal cases were initiated against individuals found guilty of electricity-related offenses. This determined approach resulted in the recovery of damages amounting to over $4.6 mn, contributing to the restoration of economic integrity.
Enforcement of disciplinary measures
The prosecutor's office, in line with its commitment to upholding the law, has taken a proactive stance towards maintaining order in the energy sector. As a result of thorough studies and investigations, 23 reports detailing violations of the law were submitted. Moreover, 51 individuals were subjected to disciplinary and administrative accountability, underlining the rigorous approach to enforcing compliance.
