Azerenergy exported over 2.8bn kWh of electricity worth $314.46mn between January and July, according to media citing the State Customs Committee. This is 4.1 and 8.9 times more, respectively, compared to the same period in 2022.
Electricity exports accounted for 1.51% of Azerbaijan's total exports.
Electricity production in Azerbaijan from January to July 2023 increased by 0.3% YoY to 16.3bn kWh, with 14.9bn kWh generated at thermal power plants, 1.1bn kWh at hydroelectric power plants, and 220.3mn kWh at other energy sources.
During the same period, 37.6mn kWh of electricity was generated from wind, 39.6mn kWh from solar, and 143.1mn kWh from a solid waste processing plant.
Headquartered in Baku, Azerenergy (Azerenerji JSC) is the leading power producer in Azerbaijan, with a significant presence in the country's largest distribution network. The regional power networks are currently undergoing privatization. In 1996, President Heydar Aliyev issued a decree that transformed Azerenergy into a state-owned joint stock company.
