Former Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz has been charged with giving false testimony during a parliamentary investigation into alleged corruption in his first government, which collapsed due to a political scandal in 2019.
According to Euronews, Kurz is set to face trial on October 18. The current Austrian Chancellor, Karl Nehammer, commented that if true, this is a chance to dispel doubts and seek clarification, while Kurz maintains his innocence and reiterated this on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
The scandal, dubbed "Ibiza-gate," erupted after the release of a secret video conversation on a Spanish resort where former Vice Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache discussed receiving campaign funding from a woman claiming to be the niece of a Russian oligarch.
