Saudi Arabia has carried out the execution of an American citizen who was accused of murdering his father, the Associated Press reports. The individual put to death was identified as Bishoy Sharif Naji Nasif, who allegedly assaulted and subsequently strangled his Egyptian father.
Nasif was also revealed to have been involved in substance abuse, dismembered his father's body, and had plans to target another individual before his apprehension.
The details regarding the method of Nasif's execution were not included in the statement. However, Saudi Arabia typically employs beheading as the mode of execution for individuals under death sentences. Information about Nasif's legal representation remains unidentified at present, and any potential residential address in the United States remains undisclosed.
Amnesty International states that Saudi Arabia is ranked among the countries with the highest number of executions worldwide in 2022, trailing behind China and Iran. While the number of executions had declined during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a resurgence in recent times.
Notably, in March 2022, the kingdom executed 81 individuals, marking the largest mass execution in its contemporary history.
