Catholic bishops of the Mediterranean region will discuss migration issues during a meeting in Marseille in September. The head of the Holy See will join them, Euronews has reported.
Pope Francis is deeply concerned about migration problems. He conveyed this to journalists while returning to the Vatican from Portugal during an apostolic visit.
In September, the leader of the Holy See intends to address the topic of migration during his visit to Marseille, where the "Mediterranean Meetings" of Catholic bishops will take place.
Pope Francis: "The bishops of the Mediterranean will hold this meeting, including with some politicians, to deeply reflect on the tragedy of migrants. The Mediterranean is a graveyard, but not the largest one. The largest graveyard is in North Africa. It's horrifying."
During his time in Portugal, Pope Francis participated in events dedicated to World Youth Day.
The pontiff is set to travel to Marseille on September 22. An apostolic visit to Mongolia is also on Pope Francis' agenda at the beginning of September.
