Ilnaz Galyaviyev, the perpetrator of the tragic shooting at Kazan gymnasium No. 175 in the spring of 2021, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court of Tatarstan. The horrifying incident resulted in the deaths of seven students and two teachers, leaving 139 individuals seriously wounded. The collective impact of this crime encompassed over 600 victims, underlining the severity of the tragedy.
Galyaviyev's life sentence will be served at the notorious IK-6, widely recognized as the "Black Dolphin" correctional institution. This specialised facility, located in Sol-Iletsk within the Orenburg Region, is designed to house life-sentenced prisoners and is characterised by its stringent security measures. The unofficial moniker "Black Dolphin" stems from a distinctive fountain resembling a black dolphin situated on the premises.
IK-6 maintains a strict isolation regimen to prevent any interaction among inmates, emphasising security and control. Notably, both life-sentenced prisoners and those subjected to a general detention regime coexist within the facility. Stringent surveillance measures are enforced, with continuous video monitoring of prisoners and uninterrupted lighting in cells. The surveillance extends to night hours to ensure utmost security. Furthermore, convicts are accompanied by a minimum of three guards and a canine handler with a dog at all times.
The prison's reputation for being impregnable is underscored by its handling of particularly dangerous inmates, including notorious individuals like cannibal Vladimir Nikolaev. Escape from the Black Dolphin is widely regarded as unattainable, solidifying its status as a secure correctional facility.
