The trilateral summit on August 4, attended by Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdimuhammedov, and Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon, with President Berdimuhammedov leading the meeting, discussed expanding mutually beneficial cooperation regarding the rational use of water resources, the development of the energy sector, and the building up of transport and logistics potential.
President Mirziyoyev thanked President Berdimuhammedov for organizing the summit in Turkmenistan's capital Ashgabat and for the hospitality provided.
The standard policy of openness, unity, and cohesion among the region's countries has brought positive results. Trading operations have significantly increased, cooperative transactions in industries, agriculture, energy, and logistics have grown, as well as interregional contacts and cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
The Consultative Meetings of the Heads of Central Asian States have effectively made mutually acceptable decisions on topical issues of the bilateral and regional agenda.
The President of Uzbekistan emphasized the joint need for adequate and deeply thought-out answers to new challenges, especially regarding the growing water scarcity in the region. It is proposed to intensify cooperation in areas such as introducing advanced water-saving technologies, modernization of irrigation systems, digitalization of water management processes, and joint development of infrastructure for collecting and storing rural flood waters.
'To address these issues, it's important to leverage the complete capabilities of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea and collaborate with partner organizations and structures such as the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank',
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
The President acknowledged the successful cooperation between the Central Asian countries in the energy sector, particularly in energy supply and transit. With the goal of transitioning to a "green" economy, joint hydro and thermal energy projects are underway.
Developing an integrated transport infrastructure is also a priority, and the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran corridor and Trans-Caspian route will enhance Central Asia's attractiveness as a transit center for international East-West and North-South corridors. To achieve this, favorable conditions for international carriers, digitalization, and increased checkpoint capacity will be jointly established.
Coordination and mutual support between the region's countries on the international platform of the United Nations were highlighted as essential.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev also affirmed Uzbekistan's commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the Central Asian region.
