Investors from China are interested in cultivating cotton in the Turkestan region of Kazakhstan and have expressed their willingness to invest $46mn, media reports. Besides, they have unveiled plans to implement a drip irrigation system.
In addition to the project mentioned, Mayor Darkhan Satybaldy and representatives from major companies are discussing plans to build a $10mn factory that would manufacture gelatin from cattle bones in the region.
The parties also talked about possible collaboration in the area of infrastructure development.
Governor Darhan Satybaldy has stated that the parties have taken note of the prosperous projects undertaken in the neighboring Syrdarya region of Uzbekistan and have gained valuable knowledge from their visit to China and witnessing the operations of the largest production giants.
The government and investors are now keen on pursuing similar projects in their region and are prepared to support new ventures.
In 2022, neighboring Uzbekistan exported cotton worth $248.26mn to China, as per the United Nations COMTRADE database on global trade.
