Uzbekistan exported 150mn kWh of electricity to Kyrgyzstan during the spring of 2023, as reported by Trend.
The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan has stated that the energy systems in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan operate in parallel within Central Asia.
The bilateral agreement states that Kyrgyzstan exports electricity to Uzbekistan during winter, and Uzbekistan reciprocates during summer. This helps both nations meet their energy demands efficiently and fosters cooperation in the region's energy sector.
Additionally, Kyrgyzstan plays a crucial role in supporting Uzbekistan's agricultural needs by supplying water through the Naryn River during summer.
Meanwhile, according to the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, Kyrgyzstan's electricity imports have decreased in the first five months of 2023. The country imported 1.516bn kWh of electricity, 5% less than in 2022.
