EnergyProm reports an 11% increase in poultry prices in Kazakhstan, attributed to a threefold rise in exports. Poultry meat production in the country has surged by 27% in the past six months, reaching 170.7 thousand tons, with Akmola region leading production at 27.7 thousand tons and Almaty region at 27.2 thousand tons.
“In general, in 2022, the country produced 121.2 thousand tons of fresh or chilled poultry meat (+7.8% per year) and 120.8 thousand tons of frozen poultry meat (-4.9%),” the portal reports.
During the previous six months, Kazakhstan witnessed a significant surge in demand for poultry meat and by-products, encompassing both domestic sales and exports, with a remarkable growth rate of 73.5%. Imports also rose by approximately 6%, reaching a total of 49.1 thousand tons. Moreover, the volume of exports increased to 14.1 thousand tons, almost tripling in comparison, while the domestic sale of white meat exceeded 170 thousand tons.
“In June of this year, poultry prices increased by 10.8% in annual dynamics. Including chicken, prices went up by 13.9%, chicken legs - by 6%, chicken breast - by 18.2%, thighs and drumsticks - by 18.6%," EnergyProm writes.
Agricultural expert Kirill Pavlov says that it is advisable to consider the price tag from Kazakhstan's northern neighbour, where prices have slightly increased, possibly benefiting certain suppliers. He anticipates a potential rise in the cost of poultry meat due to Russia's withdrawal from the Grain Deal this year, leading to an increase in grain prices that directly impacts feed costs. The Pavlodar region experienced the most substantial price increase for poultry meat at 23.6%, while the Mangistau region saw the smallest increase at 0.6%.
