The French company Suez and Tashkent Shahar Suv Taminoti have initiated a comprehensive modernization project for the water supply system in Uzbekistan, the press service of the mayor of Tashkent reported on August 2. The project is expected to span 7 years and aims to bring fundamental changes to the existing system and its components.
As part of the collaboration, 650 thousand smart metres will be installed, along with a mobile application to promptly address subscriber requests. The modernization effort also includes upgrading laboratory equipment to enhance water quality analysis and installing sensors throughout the water supply network for real-time water quality monitoring.
The partnership with Suez was established years ago, and in March 2020, an agreement on transforming the water sector was signed with the administration of Tashkent and Tashkent Shahar Suv Taminoti.
The total estimated cost of the water supply and sewerage system modernization project is €185.4 mn. In 2021, the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services (now part of the Ministry of Construction) and Suez signed a memorandum for joint work on introducing smart water metering.
The collaboration also explores the possibility of waste recycling and energy extraction. The modernization initiative seeks to optimise energy consumption at water and sewage pumping stations and wastewater treatment plants while improving overall water supply efficiency and management in Tashkent with the assistance and expertise provided by the French company Suez.
