President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was presented with a briefing on initiatives aimed at augmenting reserves and expanding mineral development on August 1. During the presentation, plans in the geology sector were discussed, with a focus on increasing reserves of uranium, kaolin, and coal.
For this it is planned:
- to continue exploration work jointly with foreign companies;
- increase the volume of production, effectively using the existing raw material base, unique technologies and human resources.
- introduction of technologies for improving the quality and sorting of coal in Angren.
- to speed up exploration work, the private sector will be given 5 promising coal sites in Surkhandarya.
- search for new kaolin deposits and increase its reserves to 200 mn tons.
- increase in the number of kaolin processing projects.
The target for 2023 is to produce 6.7 mn tons of coal. At present, there are 33 ongoing kaolin projects worth $620 mn. The plan is to enhance exports to $81 mn this year and $180 mn by 2030 through the production of high value-added products from kaolin.
In January Daryo mentioned that the President of Uzbekistan highlighted the potential for expanding high-quality coal production through the development of "Shargun" and "Boysun" mines. He stressed the importance of attracting investors to these mines and executing new projects.
