The Investigative Committee of the Chelyabinsk Region in Russia has initiated a criminal case regarding the abduction of a person after a woman, who had been held captive for 14 years in the village of Smolino, came forward and reported the incident to the police.
According to the investigation, in the autumn of 2009, the suspect lured a local resident to a private house in the regional center under the pretext of sharing a drink and kept her confined there until recently. After the suspect's mental condition worsened, he was taken to a medical institution, which allowed the woman to seize the opportunity and escape from the house where she had been held against her will.
The victim, identified as 33-year-old Ekaterina B., had encountered the suspect, 37-year-old Vladimir Ch., along with a friend at the Chelyabinsk railway station in 2009. Vladimir invited them to Smolino, where he locked them in his house on Festivalnaya Street.
Ekaterina was held in a separate room equipped with barred windows and a padlock. She stated that the abductor repeatedly subjected her to sexual assault under the threat of death.
Vladimir's mother also resided in the house, but neighbors believed she lived alone because her son never appeared in public. Reports suggest that Vladimir had killed Ekaterina's friend back in 2010.
Ekaterina finally managed to escape in July 2023 when Vladimir's mother called for an ambulance due to his constant drinking and aggressive behavior. In his state of distress, Vladimir forgot to lock Ekaterina's room, providing her with the chance to flee.
During a search of Vladimir's property, the authorities discovered human remains in the outbuildings, prompting the initiation of a criminal case for murder.
