China imposes restrictions on the export of certain drones and their components to protect national security, Gazeta.uz reports with reference to Xinhua.
Drones weighing over 7 kg, capable of staying airborne for more than 30 minutes, transporting objects, and dropping them on the ground, will be subject to export control. Additionally, the export of certain drone engines, lasers, communication equipment, and drone defense systems will require special permission.
These restrictions will be in effect from September 1st for a duration of two years. However, the export control does not mean a complete ban; drones used for lawful civilian purposes can still be exported after complying with the necessary procedures.
China is a major developer and exporter of drones, and despite the temporary suspension of deliveries to Russia and Ukraine, Chinese drones continue to be sold to Russia by around 70 Chinese exporters, totaling at least $12 mn as of March 2023.
