Tashkent plans to increase the number of green areas by five times, covering 5,000 hectares. Following the country's new strategy, Uzbekistan's capital also intends to plant 200mn trees and grow landscaping to 30%.
To ensure the proper care and irrigation of each planted tree, the budget will cover the cost of creating a dedicated irrigation system using drip irrigation.
The strategy also includes expanding the forest area to 6.1mn hectares, increasing the production of tree and shrub seeds to 840 tons, and creating public parks in city and district centers for every 50,000-100,000 inhabitants.
In addition, the republic aims to increase the forest cover to 30% and establish 26,200 hectares of tree plantations to prevent erosion and protect against sand drift.
The strategy also includes plans to introduce ecotourism, mountain, hunting, and safari tourism in forestry and national natural parks, mountain-desert areas, and water protection zones of water bodies.
The capital will also complete the construction of an additional 800,000 hectares of greenery on the dry bottom of the Aral Sea, reaching 3.5mn hectares or 85% of the area.
Besides, the strategy aims to reduce the incineration rate to 35% and decrease the number of landfills by 50%.
Earlier, Daryo reported that to combat illegal logging and promote environmental conservation, the fine for violating regulations related to cutting trees and shrubs has been increased fivefold in Uzbekistan. The moratorium on these activities has also been extended indefinitely, with stricter penalties for those who fail to comply.
