Uzbekistan's agricultural industry is experiencing notable growth and has shown a substantial increase in its potential for exporting agricultural products.
As per the data released by the national statistics agency, Uzbekistan earned a significant $16.7mn from exporting melons during the first half of this year alone.
The export volume during this period was nearly 80,000 tons of fruit, which is 16,800 tons more than the figures from the previous year.
Kazakhstan imported the highest amount of Uzbekistan's melon at 35,700 tons, followed by Russia at 29,300 tons and Kyrgyzstan at 12,600 tons.
In recent years, Uzbekistan has been working to expand its export markets and increase the value of its melon exports. The government has implemented various measures to improve the quality and packaging of melons, as well as to promote Uzbek melons in international markets.
In addition to fresh melons, Uzbekistan exports processed melon products such as dried melon slices and melon jam. These products are famous in markets counting Japan and the Republic of Korea.
Daryo recently revealed that Uzbekistan's export of potatoes to Kazakhstan from May to July this year was at an all-time high in the last two decades. Uzbekistan shipped nearly 4,000 tons of potatoes between May 21 and July 20, 2023. Out of this amount, Kazakhstan imported more than 3,900 tons, while Tajikistan received around 40 tons.
