Archaeological sites in Samarkand have sustained significant damage amounting to UZS 9bn (nearly $774,171), prompting the Prosecutor General's Office to implement systematic control measures to safeguard and preserve these historical landmarks.
One such monument, "Tulqirtepa-1," located in the "Mingtepa" mahalla of the Urgut district, was excavated using specialized equipment, resulting in damages estimated at UZS 4bn (nearly $344,076).
Other sites such as "Teshiktepa," "Kulqishloqtepa-2," and "Mozortepa" have suffered partial destruction, resulting in a total of UZS 5bn in damages (nearly $430,095).
The law considers these offenses serious, and as such, criminal cases have been initiated, with ongoing investigations. Those found guilty can face imprisonment for up to 7 years.
