The U.S. Congress recently held a public hearing focusing on claims that the government has been concealing a longstanding program related to unidentified flying objects (UFOs) or, as the U.S. government terms them, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs), Al Jazeera reports.
The hearing featured testimony from three retired military veterans before a House Oversight Subcommittee, marking Congress's increased interest in UAPs, considering potential national security implications.
During the hearing, retired Major David Grusch, one of the testifying veterans, revealed that he was denied access to a highly classified UAP crash retrieval and reverse engineering program in 2019 while serving at the National Reconnaissance Office, the agency responsible for U.S. spy satellites. Grusch also suggested that the U.S. government might have been aware of "non-human" activity as early as the 1930s.
U.S. Representative Tim Burchett supported the notion of a government cover-up and expressed determination to uncover the truth during the hearing. However, the Pentagon has denied Grusch's claims of a cover-up and stated that there is no verifiable information to support the existence of any programs involving the possession or reverse-engineering of extraterrestrial materials.
Grusch claimed to have become a government whistleblower following his discovery and alleged retaliation from the government for coming forward. He shared that the tactics used against him were brutal and unfortunate but refrained from divulging specific details due to an ongoing investigation.
When questioned about the potential harm caused in efforts to conceal extraterrestrial technology, Grusch confirmed that he had knowledge of such incidents. However, he appeared hesitant to provide further details during the hearing, citing the classified nature of the information. He also asserted that the U.S. government is not only withholding UAP information from the public but also from Congress.
The hearing provided a glimpse into the ongoing interest and concerns regarding UAPs in the U.S. government and raised questions about the possible existence of classified programs related to UFO encounters.
