The Trans-Afghan Railway negotiations have been completed by Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, Uzbek Railway reports.
The final stage of negotiations for the Trans-Afghan Railway is being conducted by the delegation of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari (Uzbek Railway) in collaboration with the railway administrations of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The project holds significant importance for the region, as highlighted by Uzbekiston Temir Yollari. It is expected to serve as a crucial element in strengthening economic ties among the three countries. The establishment of a direct rail link between Uzbekistan and Pakistan through Afghanistan will enhance trade and logistics efficiency.
During the talks, discussions revolve around securing financing, construction, technical aspects, and implementation timelines. All parties involved express a strong interest and willingness to engage in mutually beneficial cooperation. Representatives from Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and Afghanistan are actively working towards finding optimal solutions that will ensure the successful realization of the project.
The Trans-Afghan Railway
In May 2023, China and Pakistan reached an agreement to expand the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) into Afghanistan, providing an opportunity for substantial investment in the war-torn nation's infrastructure. The extension of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) into Afghanistan aims to contribute to the country's reconstruction process and boost its economy.
The agreement was finalized in Islamabad, with the Taliban expressing interest in participating in the project. Additionally, efforts are underway to unfreeze Afghanistan's overseas financial assets. Afghanistan's participation in this project was much anticipated as the Central Asian nations are landlocked, making overland transport options limited. With the conclusion of these negotiations trade and regional security should see improvement for all nations involved.
