Uzbekistan has reached a new record high in its daily electricity consumption, according to the Ministry of Energy.
On July 26, the country consumed 250.7mn kW/h, surpassing the previous peak on July 12 of 247.5mn kW/h.
In 2022, the highest consumption was recorded on July 27 at 239mn kW/h.
The Ministry of Energy notes that the extreme heat in the country reduces power transmission network capacity by 25%, leading to mandatory restrictions to prevent major accidents.
Earlier, Daryo reported that Uzbekhydroenergy has launched a tender to construct five hydropower plants with a combined capacity of 46.6 MW. The project is a public-private partnership with an estimated cost of $106.9mn.
The plants are expected to generate 179mn kWh of electricity annually. The tender is open to both local and foreign investors.
The Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, has shared that construction on a "green hydrogen" production facility will commence this August.
