Myratgeldi Seyitmammedov has been appointed Turkmenistan's ambassador to Qatar, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports. The corresponding decree was signed by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
Turkmenistan's diplomatic mission in Qatar was inaugurated in March 2023 as part of Berdimuhamedov's state visit.
Ashgabat is interested in the participation of Qatar's largest financial and investment structures in the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, the construction of which began in December 2015.
In 2011, Qatar signed the Ashgabat Agreement on the formation of the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman-Qatar transport corridor. The project aims to create a sustainable link between Central Asian countries and the ports of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
A meeting of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Qatar joint commission on economic cooperation is scheduled to be held in Ashgabat in the first half of 2023.
