The relations of friendship and brotherhood between the peoples of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have traditionally been based on strong ties of good neighbourliness, equality, respect and mutual support.
This is stated in the message of Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the occasion of his birthday.
"Thanks to your wise and far-sighted policy, the Republic of Uzbekistan has entered a new stage of its development. Today, Uzbekistan is undergoing large-scale transformations aimed at improving the welfare of the people and the country's authority in the world arena."
Berdimuhamedov also noted that Turkmen-Uzbek co-operation is dynamically developing in a wide range of areas. "Through joint efforts, our relations will be enriched with new content," he said.

During the years of Mirziyoyev's rule, mutual trade between the two related countries with similar history, culture and language has grown more than five times since 2016 to reach nearly $1bn.
To double this volume, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan intend to create a favourable zone for cross-border trade. This was the result of Berdimuhamedov's state visit to Uzbekistan a year ago.
